LONDON
LASSES & PETE QUINN
Widely regarded as one of the finest acts on the traditional
Irish/folk scene, the latest 12-track collection from the traditional
Irish six-piece The London Lasses and Pete Quinn, Enchanted Lady, will
undoubtedly add lustre to the group’s reputation. As the eminent
fiddle player, pianist and tunesmith Charlie Lennon states in his introductory
note:
“The
London Lasses are back in bouncing form with even more excitement, enthusiasm
and energy than ever before – if that is possible.”
Following critical acclaim for their eponymous debut release in 2000
and the follow-up Track Across the Deep (2003), Enchanted Lady sees
the group subtly expanding the sound palette while never straying too
far from their dynamic signature sound of twin fiddles, flute, accordion
and piano. Bursting into life with a vibrant set of reels and signing
off with an intricately arranged set of jigs, the collection is the
group’s finest, most compelling work to date. Captivatingly sung
by Kathleen O’Sullivan, with tasteful and entirely sympathetic
instrumental support, the album’s four songs range from the comic
to the heartrending.
T
he London Lasses have already brought their unique sound to some of
the world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls, including
Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury,
Philadelphia
Irish Festival, Sidmouth International Festival and Spitalfields. In
addition to featuring on the 3-CD box set Beginner's Guide to Ireland
(Nascente, 2005), the band has appeared on UK and Irish TV including
Backstage (BBC Choice), Geantraí and Ardán (TG4), plus
a memorable turn on EastEnders (BBC1).
This is their first appearance at the Ballyshannon Folk Festival
and you are certain of a treat. |
