Ballyshannon Folk Festival 2011 Line up
 
Friday 29th July
Concert at the Abbey Theatre with:
Frankie Gavin is one of the genuine legends of Irish music. From his first TV appearance playing the tin-whistle when he was six, to seven solo albums, through to appearances and recordings with such luminaries as Earl Scruggs, and the ‘Rolling Stones’, ‘the prince of Irish fiddlers’ is one of the outstanding performers of the past thirty years. Frankie is also the original founding member of acclaimed traditional super group ‘De Dannan’.
Charlie McGettigan started his musical career in the 1960s heavily influenced by artists like the Beatles, The Rolling Stones. When he moved to Dublin in 1968 he honed in on the thriving folk scene there at that time. His influences then were people like Paul Brady, Donal Lunny and Andy Irvine and, having played electric guitar up to then, he purchased his first acoustic guitar concentrating on developing the finger picking style, which is now his stock in trade.
Dave Sheridan's flute playing has been described as "a highly accomplished free flowing fluid style, with sound technique and solid driving rhythm (Hot Press Magazine) and a flute style which takes on "Lark like qualities" (fRoots Magazine). Joining him on stage are John McCartin on guitar and one of the rising stars of the fiddle, Donal Mc Cague.
 
Saturday 30th July
Concert at the Abbey Theatre with:
Finbar Furey - legendary singer with the Furey Brothers and Davey Arthur. Finbar Furey tours extensively, bringing his rare talents to a world-wide stage and treats audiences to evenings of pure Irish magic, great music, good humour, and the charm and sparkling wit associated with one of Ireland's great raconteurs. He comes from a unique pedigree - an all Ireland Uillean Pipe Champion and whistle player, singer/songwriter as well as playing 5-string banjo, and guitar.
Ciorras, were formed as a band earlier this year when the individual members were among a large number of young musicians who featured in the hit TG4 series, Lorg Lunny. As part of his journey around the country searching for young musical talent, these 8 young musicians were invited by maestro Dónal Lunny to create a new band with a fresh, new unique sound in traditional music.
Darren Breslin is from Lisnaskea Co. Fermanagh. He has won Ulster several times and the All-Ireland Button Accordion 2008. Darren has been playing in local venues from a very early age and his grandfather Brian plays the fiddle and took Darren along wherever he was playing. Darren has been on the Comhaltaf Tours of Ireland, Britain and Canada. His debut CD has been a hit with music lovers all over the world.
 
Sunday 31st July
Concert at the Abbey Theatre with:
Four Men & a Dog made a name for themselves with their eclectic and vivacious blend of traditional Irish music with a wide spectrum of other genres, including rap, Southern rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, polka, country swing, and even salsa.They made their debut performance as a band in 'Murphy's Bar', Dungiven, County Derry, in 1990 before going on to steal the show at the Belfast Folk Festival later that year, with a high-energy approach that combines furious traditional dance tunes
Renowned for her warm, engaging stage presence, Sarah McQuaid is a versatile and beguiling performer. In addition to her own elegantly crafted originals, she interprets traditional Irish and Appalachian folk songs, Elizabethan ballads, 1930s jazz numbers, surprise covers and lively guitar instrumentals with panache and poignance.

Showcasing at this years Folk Festival
The event will take place in Dorrians Imperial Hotel on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st of July starting at 1pm on both days. The competition will be judged by four independent experts. There are a total of twelve acts taking the stage including last years winners (Bullriver Meejiums) over the two days from individuals to four, five and a ten piece. They will be battling it out in fifteen minute sets for the title of Showcase Winners 2011.
